Ok, now that we have
been still for a few days and able to see one of the things I have really
wanted to see on this journey I am settling down and realize that Pennsylvania
is quit beautiful. We spent our first day playing around the resort and getting
stocked up on groceries. The farm animals and corn everywhere are pretty cool
and while cooking dinner the first night the resident ducks wanted to say
hello. I got kind of concerned after about five minutes when they just stared
at me, it was like that scene from birds when they are all staring at the lady
just before they attack!
The morning after Laura and I took a nice walk before everyone was
up and the whole resort was still asleep, it was quiet and really nice.
Later that morning we
went on to Gettysburg National Military Park and I was able to take in the full
scope of that battle and what it looked like which has really been a dream of
mine. Jacob and Aiden took a couple of the ranger programs and Jacob was able
to see what it was like to dress up as a Union Soldier. Then the rangers showed
the kids how a platoon lined up and fought a battle.
I didn’t realize just
how many memorials were around this battlefield. Every brigade that fought there had a memorial
set along with all the generals and cannon batteries, it was really AWE inspiring
to see just how many cannons were on the battlefield. We ended the day with a
car tour on our own and then the boys were able to get their Junior Ranger badges,
which were the 150-year anniversary patches.
